G63 – Give them time to read. Older adults usually read more slowly (than younger adults).

Standard

Guideline:

Give them time to read. Older adults usually read more slowly (than younger adults).

Guideline Description:

In general older adults have low literacy level, so they need more time to reading than younger adults. It is important to give them time to read and interpret the information presented. For example the use of popups that disappear after  certain  number  of seconds should be avoid, once  the older adult may not have the enough time to read.

Example:

exemplo G63An older adult reading elements of a nutrition application in a touch-screen device.

G49 – Give them time to learn.

Standard

Guideline:

Give them time to learn.

Guideline Description:

The learning capability of the older adult is more slower than a young adult, due to their cognitive changes, especially in the decrease of short-term memory, responsible by  human learning.

Example:

examplo G49

An older adult, learning how to use a multi-touch tabletop.

G38 – Give test participants’ time to think.

Standard

Guideline:

Give test participants’ time to think.

Guideline Description:

The time required to performing a task by an older adult is greater than young adults. For this reason, the tests should be planned taking this aspect into account, seeking do not interrupt line of thought of the participants. This aspect can be improved by reducing background noise.

Example:

examplo G38

An older adult thinking during a task.

G6 – Due to large variability in touch performance by elderly people (due to age, health-related issue, etc.) the setting of the time parameters of gestures is of paramount importance, to promote a better adaptation.

Standard

Guideline:

Due to large variability in touch performance by elderly people (due to age, health-related issue, etc.) the setting of the time parameters of gestures is of paramount importance, to promote a better adaptation.

Guideline Description:

The setting of the time parameters of gestures is a crutial feature, in order to promote a better adaptability of the interface, due to a large variability in touch performance by elderly people (due to age, health-related issue, etc.).
